The maker's recommended age
Where the maker gives a recommended age, the product page shows it. It is their guidance, so read it alongside what you know about your own child.

The right toy for the child
A toy only earns its place if it suits the child who opens it. We list the facts that decide that, so you know what you are buying.
Size, in real numbers
A photo cannot tell you how long a plush animal really is or how much floor a puzzle covers. Where the maker gives measurements, they are on the page. For building sets and puzzles, check the piece count too.
What is in the box
Each page lists the contents, so you know what arrives and there are no surprises when the wrapping comes off.
Batteries, spelled out
Where a toy needs batteries, the page says which type and whether they are included. Good to know before a birthday morning.
Small parts flagged
Many toys have small parts, small balls or marbles and are not for children under 3. Check the age on the page, and keep little pieces away from younger brothers and sisters.
Easy to return
Not what you expected? Send it back within 14 days in resaleable condition for a full refund, on top of your provincial consumer protection rights.

Frequently asked questions
Start with the maker's recommended age, where the product page gives one. Then check the size and what is in the box against what the child can manage now. For building sets and puzzles, check the piece count on the page. For a gift, when you do not know the child well, stay inside the recommended age. If you are unsure, email us before you order.
Our range is chosen for ages 3 and up. Many toys have small parts, small balls or marbles, which are not for children under 3. Where the maker gives a recommended age, the product page shows it. In a house with a child under 3, keep these toys and their pieces out of reach.
Some do. Where a toy needs batteries, the product page says which type and whether they are included. Rechargeable toys list what comes in the box for charging. An adult should fit and change batteries, following the maker's instructions.
Most orders arrive within 5 to 10 working days of the order date, a little longer for rural, remote and northern addresses. Working days leave out weekends and public holidays. For a date that cannot move, order at least two weeks ahead. We cannot promise delivery on a set day.
Photos can mislead, so product pages give the maker's measurements wherever the maker supplies them. Check the size before you buy, especially for giant plush animals, floor puzzles and play sets that need storage space.
Each kit lists what is in the box on its product page. Some kits need everyday extras such as water, scissors or batteries, and the page says so where the maker lists them. Adult supervision is recommended for kits with small parts, needles or tools.
Yes. We deliver to every province and territory, including rural, remote and northern addresses. Delivery is free on orders of $125 or more and a flat $18 under that. Rural, remote and northern addresses can take a little longer.
Send it back within 14 days of delivery, in resaleable condition with its packaging and accessories, and we refund the price you paid including standard delivery. That is on top of your rights under the consumer protection law of your province or territory if anything arrives faulty.
Buying guide
How to Choose a Toy for a Child Aged 3 and Up: A Practical Guide
A good toy is one that gets played with. That depends less on the photo and more on a few plain facts: the age it is made for, how big it is, what is in the box and what it needs to work. This guide walks through those facts and the kinds of toy we sell.
Start with the child
Think about the child before the toy. How old are they, and what do they already play with? Do they like to build, pretend, make things or run around outside? For a gift, ask a parent if you can. A quick message can save a duplicate gift or a toy that is too young.
Read the recommended age
Where a product page shows a recommended age, it is the maker's guidance. It reflects things like the size of the parts and how fiddly the toy is. Not every maker gives one, and where they do not, we do not guess. Toys with small parts, small balls or marbles are not for children under 3. If there is a younger child in the house, plan where those pieces will be kept.
Size and piece count
Size. Check the maker's measurements on the page. A giant plush or a floor puzzle needs floor space, and a play set needs somewhere to live when the game is over.
Piece count. For building sets and puzzles, check the piece count on the page. A bigger number is not always better. A large tub of bricks suits open-ended building, but a puzzle with too many pieces can end up back in the box. Match the count to the child's patience today.
Batteries and charging
Where a toy needs batteries, the product page says which type and whether they are included. Remote control cars often need batteries for both the car and the remote. If batteries are not in the box, add them to your list so the toy works on the day. An adult should fit and change batteries, following the maker's instructions.
Wooden toys, building sets and vehicles
Wooden toys are simple, hands-on toys. Building sets come with many pieces, so look at the count before you choose. Toy vehicles are often sold as a set with several pieces. Check what is in the box.
Craft, science and music
With a craft kit, read the contents list to see what is supplied. With STEM and science kits, a younger child may need an adult's help with assembly. For musical toys, check the size of the instrument on the page.
Pretend play, soft toys and animals
Pretend play sets are easy to share between brothers, sisters and friends. Soft toys vary a lot in size, so check the measurements on the page. Dinosaur and animal toys often come as sets of figures, so check how many are in the box.
Puzzles, games and outdoor toys
For a puzzle, the piece count tells you how hard it is, and the finished size tells you how much floor it covers. For games, the page lists what is in the box. Outdoor toys need open space and an adult nearby.
Buying a gift on time
Most orders arrive within 5 to 10 working days of the order date, and rural, remote and northern addresses can take a little longer. Working days leave out weekends and public holidays. For a birthday or Christmas, order at least two weeks ahead. Delivery is free on orders of $125 or more and a flat $18 under that.
Safe play at home
Read the maker's instructions and warnings before the first play. Throw away plastic bags and ties once the toy is unpacked. Check toys now and then for loose or broken parts, and supervise play where the maker recommends it. This guide is general information, not safety advice about your child.
Your toy buying checklist
Check the recommended age, where the maker gives one. Read the size. For sets and puzzles, check the piece count. Look at what is in the box. Note the batteries. Think about where the toy will be stored. Then check the delivery window against the date you need it.
The short version
Buy for the child, read the facts on the page, and leave enough time for delivery. Every product page here lists the maker's details (recommended age and size where the maker gives them, and what is in the box) so you can decide before you order, and you have 14 days from delivery to change your mind.
